<p>First things first, let’s dispel a common myth: eggs are not the villains they were once cracked up to be. Gone are the days when we feared the humble egg for its cholesterol content. Recent research has shown that dietary cholesterol doesn’t have the same impact on blood cholesterol levels as once believed. So, feel free to enjoy those sunny-side-ups without worry!</p>

<p>As with many of the questions we answer here on the blog, there’s not one simple answers. Outdated guidelines to limit whole eggs to a few per week or <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/eggs-how-many-safe-eating-cholesterol/2021/07/30/ff759696-ee31-11eb-81d2-ffae0f931b8f_story.html">one per day</a> are largely based on the understanding that dietary cholesterol causes blood cholesterol to raise. </p>



<p>However, there is growing evidence that this is not the case. In fact, <a href="https://www.amdietetics.com/articles/how-many-eggs-is-it-safe-to-eat">two studies</a> have even shown that when 3 eggs a day were eaten, there was even an <em>improvement</em> in blood choelsterol profiles. A <a href="https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/how-many-eggs-can-i-safely-eat">Harvard Medical School article</a> from 2022 agrees that lower recommendations are outdated and says “the average healthy person likely suffers no harm from eating up to seven eggs per week. In fact, eggs are a nutritious food.”</p>



<p>But hold your egg-beaters, because there’s more to this story. Variety in your diet is still important! If you’re someone who loves to start your day with eggs, followed by egg salad for lunch and a frittata for dinner, you might want to scale back. Variety is the spice of life, after all, and there are plenty of other nutritious foods to explore.</p>
